The Italian Swiss Colony and its wine concern were founded in 1881 by Andrea Sbarboro in Asti, California (Sonoma County). The winery, which sold shares of ownership to its workers, burgeoned into the largest wine producer in California. By 1910, the winery had a capacity of 14,250,000 gallons.
